Overview

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the three federal immigration programs managed through Canada’s Express Entry system. It is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

1. Work Experience

   • At least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time paid work experience in the same job within the last 10 years.
   • The work experience must be in a skilled occupation (National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type 0, A, or B).

2. Language Ability

   • Achieve a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all four language abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

3. Education

   • A Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or an equivalent foreign credential.

4. Proof of Funds

   • Show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada.

5. Selection Grid

   • Score at least 67 points out of 100 on the FSWP selection grid, which assesses six factors: age, education, work experience, language skills, arranged employment in Canada, and adaptability.

Selection Grid Factors

1. Age: Maximum of 12 points for candidates aged 18-35.
2. Education: Maximum of 25 points for a doctoral-level degree.
3. Language Skills: Maximum of 28 points for high proficiency in English and/or French.
4. Work Experience: Maximum of 15 points for six or more years of work experience.
5. Arranged Employment: Maximum of 10 points for a valid job offer.
6. Adaptability: Maximum of 10 points for factors like previous work or study in Canada, spouse’s language proficiency, etc.
